FAQ

On Timelines & Scheduling

How long does it take to edit a manuscript?

It depends on the length of the project and the service requested, but most developmental edits and critique packages for a manuscript 60,000 words or less will take one work week to complete. The general timeline for line edits, “the works” plan, and other intensive packages is 30,000 words per week.

If you’d like an estimate for your project, feel free to reach out and ask.

How many manuscripts do you work with at once?

One. In order to give each book the full focus it deserves, I only work with one full manuscript at a time. With the exception of work from my routine coaching clients, your project will be the only one on my desk.

When is the right time for me to hire an editor?

Hmm. That’s quite the question, isn’t it? Obviously, there isn’t one “right” answer, but if you’re here and you’re thinking about it, you just might be ready.

On Pricing & Payment

Do you offer discounts?

I run a holiday sale each year during the month of December. The discount varies from year to year, but you can expect sale prices around 25% off all services booked during the month of December.

Follow ABC Editorial on Instagram to keep track of the December sale and other pop-up offers throughout the year.

What’s the standard procedure for payments?

I take payments through PayPal, Venmo, and Apple Pay. Payments are traditionally split 50/50, with half of the total invoice charged prior to beginning work and the other half charged upon completion of services rendered. However, payment plans are available upon request.

*Total invoice must be $500 or more to qualify for a payment plan

How are prices decided?

While you will be charged per word of the manuscript for most services, prices are decided based on my hourly rate and the estimated time of completion. Contact me if you have questions about the price of a project or if you’d like a free quote.

On Process

What if I’ve never worked with an editor before?

Many of my clients are newbies to hiring an editor, so you’re not an odd case. At the very beginning, we’ll lay out a plan together and I’ll tell you exactly what to expect during the editing process. I’ll answer any questions you have and ease your worries as best I can before we dive into anything serious. It’s my goal to make the experience as comfortable as possible for you. Trust me–editing can actually be fun!

Will we be in contact throughout the whole process?

Yes, of course! I offer 24/7 support to all of my clients via email and Instagram DM. I’m usually fastest to respond during standard work hours (9-5 on Mondays-Fridays), but I encourage all clients to send me whatever questions & concerns they have at any time.

I also keep in touch on my end by sending regular progress updates, checking in, and asking any questions of my own.

What happens if I still have questions about the final edits?

I offer a lifetime guarantee on all of my edits in case there’s anything I leave out of my feedback or need to explain further. Because my feedback is shared through either Google Docs or Microsoft Word, clients can leave questions and comments for me to reply to.
